This position is located within the Facilities & Engineering Unit (FEU) at the National Animal Disease Center (NADC) in Ames, Iowa. The NADC conducts basic applied research on selected diseases of economic importance to the U.S. livestock and poultry industries. Incumbent performs and/or assists in a wide range of operations, repairs, maintenance and monitoring of various onsite equipment including boilers, chillers, generators, air compressors, water softeners and associated pumps, etc.
Major Duties:
Troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment
Performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance
Special maintenance and repair projects on equipment and systems outside of the Utility Plant
Testing and analyzing boiler water, feed water, condensate, chill water, heating water and cooling tower water using standard chemical tests and determining the necessary treatment and chemicals to be used
Checks gauges for proper temperatures and air balances, plugged drains, malfunctioning freezers, control panels
Ensure compliance with air pollution laws and regulations
Checks critical equipment and systems to ensure they are operating properly
