Position: Choir Accompanist (Part-Time)
Compensation: $50 per Rehearsal (see below under “Compensation”)
Church: First Christian Church, 611 Clark Ave, Ames, IA 50010
Reports to: Pastor and Worship Planning Team
Position Summary
We are seeking a part-time Choir Piano Accompanist to support a volunteer choir in worship at a progressive Disciples of Christ church. The accompanist will collaborate with the Choir Director and pastor to provide musical leadership that enhances congregational worship and supports a welcoming, inclusive community.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide piano accompaniment for the volunteer choir during scheduled worship services (two Sundays per month, September through May)
- Accompany choir rehearsals as scheduled (currently on Sunday morning)
- Prepare and practice assigned music in advance of rehearsals and worship
- Collaborate with the Choir Director on tempo, style, and musical interpretation
- Support inclusive, justice-centered worship through music
Qualifications
- Proficiency in piano accompaniment, especially for choral music
- Ability to read music and accompany confidently
- Experience accompanying choirs or vocal ensembles preferred
- Familiarity with church or worship settings helpful but not required
- Reliability, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit
Schedule & Time Commitment
- Two Sunday worship services per month, September through May, when choir sings in worship
- Rehearsals – typically one per week September through May excluding Christmas break
- Additional services with additional compensation by mutual agreement
Compensation
- $50 per rehearsal – pay covers when the choir sings in worship up to two times per month, paid monthly
- Compensation for additional rehearsals and services as mutually agreed upon
- Either party may terminate the terms of this agreement with a two-week notice.
