Job Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Executive Director is responsible for the development and effective deployment of a plan of work to recruit and retain Chamber of Commerce members, promote visitors, and engage the community of Webster City. This position will support initiatives that strengthen the value and experience of Chamber of Commerce Membership and is also responsible for the development and effective deployment of a yearly sponsorship and fundraising plan to secure non-dues revenue.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS

  1. Develops annual plan of work, including annual budget with assistance from the Board of Directors, specifically, Treasurer. This plan must include methods for timely follow-up with prospects as well as immediate outreach and cultivation of new member Investors to ensure smooth onboarding transition as businesses join the Chamber of Commerce. The plan must also include an annual campaign related to elevating membership recruitment.
  2. Coordinates fundraising opportunities to support the overall Chamber of Commerce plan of work. Responsible for the development and execution of a successful annual sponsorship and fundraising initiative for non-dues revenue for the Chamber of Commerce.
  3. Financial oversight with the Chamber of Commerce Treasurer and Board of Directors.
  4. Oversight, support and attendance at community and member engagement events.
  5. Supports and maintains the Chamber of Commerce member database in close and frequent communication with the Community and Member Services Coordinator.
  6. Will actively use member reports via membership management system to support member retention efforts and highlight benefits of Chamber of Commerce membership to members.
  7. Manage board relations and board meeting management. Including preparing agendas, minutes, and any other relevant documents.
  8. Strategic plan implementation and management.
  9. Execution of Chamber of Commerce policies and Board of Directors directives.
  10. Represent the Chamber of Commerce at community and regional meetings.
  11. Report regularly to the Alliance Chamber Board of Directors.
  12. Perform in a manner that strengthens the image of and promotes membership within the Chamber of Commerce families.
  13. Consistent analysis of social media statistics and data, taking actionable steps in response to data trends or engagement levels. Responsive communication to public comments, private messages, or other audience engagement or shared user generated content.
  14. Create and execute social media content or campaigns that highlight member businesses, specifically sharing information that can add value to their brand or emphasize a shop local message.
  15. Create and execute social media content or campaigns that highlight the livability of the Webster City area, promote tourism, and/or positively communicate area amenities that contribute to the quality of life to both internal and external viewers.
  16. Acts as Supervisor to Community and Member Services Coordinator.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.

The Executive Director shall maintain regular office hours and conduct member outreach activities throughout Webster City and the surrounding service area.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This work is performed in a moderately noisy office environment. Work can be stressful and pressured by deadlines. Occasional travel may be required. May be asked to drive at night or in inclement weather from time to time.

HOURS:

Full time, salary position

Tuesday through Friday
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The office is closed on Mondays.

On Mondays, the Executive Director shall participate in Alliance team meetings, training, and organizational development activities in Ames during the morning and shall generally spend the afternoon in Webster City conducting member outreach, business visits, and stakeholder engagement activities.

The Community and Member Services Coordinator and Executive Director shall maintain staggered schedules when appropriate to maximize office coverage while ensuring adequate time for member engagement outside the office.

Evening or weekend hours may be required to host special events

EFFORT:

Sitting for long periods of time at a desk. Constantly looking at a computer screen. Must be able to see, hear, and speak. Filing, fingering, and sorting is a usual activity. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT:

Computer, printer, calculator, photocopier, fax machine, telephone, and vehicle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not essential. A combination of education and experience may be substituted when proficiency is demonstrated.

Excellent organizational and administrative skills with particular attention to accuracy, detail and foresight are essential to manage multiple projects. Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be able to work with deadlines and must maintain a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS:

The incumbent must have computer skills. Experience with the following types of

software and/or Windows based applications preferred: Microsoft Office products with particular attention to Word and mail merging, Excel and Outlook email and calendars.
