This summer, I had the opportunity to be part of the AREA Interns program—an experience that has been both personally and professionally rewarding. One of the most impactful parts of the program was being matched with a mentor. Sarina Flathers helped me grow, offering valuable guidance and support throughout the journey.
Through this program, I also gained a deeper understanding of the Ames community—its goals, values, and the desire to see everyone succeed. I’m inspired by the community’s commitment to inclusivity and growth.
I’m excited to see what the future holds for both this program and the Ames community!

The most memorable part of the AREA Interns program for me was hearing the stories of the speakers and learning that no two paths are ever the same. I think we often get caught up in society’s expectations of how our lives need to look, and it’s truly refreshing to see all these successful individuals who gave us presentations come from different backgrounds and to hear about their career paths. It instantly makes you realize that there’s no right or wrong way of how things should work out, and you should just follow your own path and take the opportunities that come your way!
Participating in the AREA Interns events was a great addition to my first summer spent in Ames. It was a source of support and information on how to be successful in our summer internships and future careers, and it was very comforting to see familiar faces off campus. Besides, I made connections this summer that allow me to now see familiar faces of fellow AREA interns on campus, now that school has started!

The most rewarding and memorable part of the AREA Interns program was to see a bunch of different people and get to know them!! A lot of my fellow interns at AgCertain worked in different fields, so we didn’t get to see each other that much during the day, so we would often times be the last people at the events just to chat with each other!
The AREA Interns program helped me grow a lot, especially when thinking about when we went to First National Bank and learned about investing money, and how powerful that can be. The AREA Interns program actually inspired me to start investing my money, by just showing me the power of exponential growth. I also enjoyed our graduation, and I thought the guest speaker was really powerful, and I enjoyed her engaging answers.
Participating in the AREA Interns events really brightened my summer. It showed me that there were quite a few other people in Ames during the summer, and gave me a chance to get to know more people!!
All AREA Intern events are FREE – just make sure to register!
