Position: Worship Pianist (Part-Time)
Compensation: $100 per Sunday morning service
Church: First Christian Church, 611 Clark Ave, Ames, IA 50010
Reports to: Pastor and Worship Planning Team
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and collaborative piano accompanist to support our weekly worship services. The accompanist will work closely with the pastor, worship leaders, and musicians to provide music that is spiritually grounding, inclusive, and accessible, supporting a variety of worship styles and congregational participation.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide piano accompaniment and service music for weekly Sunday worship services. Pipe organ is also available to play but not a requirement for this position.
- Accompany congregational singing and collaborate with instrumentalists as needed
- Participate in rehearsals with song leaders before each service
- Collaborate with the pastor and worship planners in selecting and preparing music that reflects progressive theology, inclusive language, and diverse musical traditions
- Prepare music independently between services
- Additional services with additional compensation outside of regular Sunday morning services (e.g., Advent, Lent, Easter, Christmas), as mutually agreed upon
Qualifications
- Proficiency in piano accompaniment for congregational singing
- Ability to adapt to different musical styles and keys
- Experience in church or worship settings preferred but not required
- Comfort working in a progressive, inclusive faith community
- Reliability, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit
Schedule & Time Commitment
- Weekly Sunday morning rehearsal with song leaders and service (10:00 to 11:30 am)
- Preparation time as needed outside of Sunday hours
- Occasional additional services by mutual agreement
Compensation
- $100 per Sunday morning service
- Compensation for additional rehearsals and services as mutually agreed upon
- Either party may terminate the terms of this agreement with a two-week notice.
