**Job Title: HVAC Journeyman**

**Position Summary**

The HVAC Journeyman installs, maintains, and repairs HVAC and refrigeration systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Working under the direction of the HVAC Foreman, this role involves reading blueprints and specifications, performing system installations and repairs, and ensuring all work complies with applicable codes, safety standards, and project requirements. The HVAC Journeyman may assist with training apprentices and works closely with other trades to complete projects efficiently and safely.

**Key Responsibilities**

+ Install, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems, including air handlers, boilers, chillers, compressors, ductwork, piping, and controls

+ Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan and execute system layouts

+ Connect electrical, gas, fuel, water, and refrigerant lines per manufacturer instructions and building codes

+ Perform system start-ups, testing, troubleshooting, and performance checks

+ Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and complete necessary repairs or adjustments

+ Conduct preventative maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and filter replacement

+ Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and service history

+ Follow all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and policies

+ Assist in mentoring apprentices or less experienced technicians as needed

+ Coordinate work with other trades on construction or renovation projects

**Qualifications**

+ High school diploma or GED

+ Completion of an HVAC or plumbing apprenticeship or trade program

+ Journeyman Plumber License

+ Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, codes, and industry standards

+ Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents

+ OSHA 10 Certification

+ Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills

+ Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment

**Physical Demands & Work Environment**

+ Work on active construction sites and in occupied buildings

+ Frequently lift and carry tools and materials (up to 50 lbs regularly; heavier items occasionally)

+ Stand, walk, climb ladders, and work in confined or elevated spaces

+ Perform repetitive motions including bending, kneeling, reaching, and overhead work

+ Operate hand and power tools requiring fine motor skills

+ Tolerate exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and job site hazards

+ Use required personal protective equipment (PPE)

**Job Type & Location**

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ames, IA.

**Pay and Benefits**

The pay range for this position is $25.00 – $30.00/hr.
