Job Description:

The School of Education (SOE) in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a teaching faculty position in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor with a start date of August 16, 2026. This is a 2-year full-time term faculty position with the possibility for renewal and carries a four course per semester teaching load. Renewal parameters are determined by performance and school need.

We seek a dynamic, innovative, and enthusiastic colleague who can support the development of pre-service elementary mathematics teachers. The successful candidate should demonstrate a knowledge of and commitment to equitable and evidence-based mathematics methodology, and experience with professional mathematics documents such as the Iowa Academic Standards or Common Core and NCTM’s Effective Practices.

Specifically, we are looking for a faculty colleague to: (a) teach undergraduate methods courses in elementary mathematics; (b) teach other courses in our elementary education program, such as undergraduate foundations of education courses; and (c) participate in School of Education service, including program and school-level meetings and committees.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

+ Master’s degree in Elementary Education or a closely related field

+ Completion of a teacher preparation program

+ Licensure/certification (in any state) in elementary education

+ Three years of experience as an elementary school teacher using Iowa Academic Standards for Mathematics or Common Core Standard for Mathematics

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Advanced coursework or PhD in elementary mathematics education or closely related field

+ Experience preparing/supporting elementary school teachers

+ Evidence of effective teaching at the post-secondary level

+ More than three years as a successful elementary teacher

+ Experience providing professional development on the Iowa Academic Standards or Common Core and NCTM’s Effective Practices
