+ The Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU) is a 14-bed medical ICU where nurses provide highly specialized, patient-centered care in a dynamic and collaborative environment. This high-acuity unit supports nurses in practicing to the full extent of their licensure, engaging in complex clinical decision-making and working closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver individualized, evidence-based care. + Position Responsibilities
+ Unit Specific Position Responsibilities
+ Provide direct, individualized nursing care to critically ill patients based on the nursing process and established protocols.
+ Monitor and interpret vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and other patient data to recognize and respond to life-threatening situations.
+ Safely administer medications, including IV infusions, and monitor for adverse reactions and effectiveness.
+ Monitor, assess, and manage patients’ hemodynamic status using invasive and non-invasive tools, including titration of vasoactive medications and interpretation of data to support optimal perfusion and cardiovascular stability.
+ Manage patients on ventilators and other life-support equipment.
+ Perform complex procedures such as central line care, arterial line management, and wound care.
+ Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, including medical emergencies, acute care team calls, and critical changes in patient condition.
+ Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and coordinate patient care with physicians, therapists, social workers, and other team members.
+ Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and families .
+ Provide age-appropriate, developmentally sensitive critical care to pediatric patients,
+ Demonstrate accountability and initiative in learning and peer support.
+ Know hospital policies and procedures, especially those related to ICU practices.
+ Stay current with evidence-based ICU nursing practices.
+ Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
+ Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
+ Licensed as a Registered Nurse and authorized by the State of Iowa to practice nursing or has active multistate license approved by the Nurse Licensure Compact.
+ Achievement of Baccalaureate degree in nursing within 6 years of hire if hired after January 1, 2014.
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) training, or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
+ Mandatory Reporter training or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
+ Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training or within 90 days of hire , (or attend next available class) and must maintain throughout employment.
+ Certification in NIHSS within 90 days of hire.
+ Combative Patient Response Team training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
+ Organizational Requirements:
+ Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.
+ Preferred Qualifications:
+ Baccalaureate degree in nursing.
+ Professional certification in nursing specialty.
+ Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
+ Proficient in communication skills.
+ Ability to pursue and foster a sense of team and partnership across all disciplines.
+ Ability to communicate effectively, in English, with diverse population groups.
+ Ability to be self-directed, flexible, and able to adapt to change.
+ Ability to communicate effectively in a professional and tactful manner with physicians, staff, patients and/or their representatives.
+ Ability to read and understand chart documentation.
+ Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills.
+ Ability to read, write and understand the English language.
+ Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for adolescent through geriatric patients.
+ Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
+ A minimum of one year of acute, hospital-based nursing critical care experience.
