Job Description:
The Iowa State University Athletics Department is accepting applications for an Assistant Track & Cross Country Coach with expertise in middle distance, distance, and cross country events to assist the Director of Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Track and Field and with all phases of the NCAA Division I programs to help develop our student-athletes to reach their full potential .
Examples of what you’ll do
+ Plan practice sessions and competitive coaching situations (assigned primarily with athletes in cross country, middle distance and distance events)
+ Effectively teach, mentor, and coach to develop well-rounded student-athletes and contribute to and enhance a competitive athletic experience
+ Identify and successfully recruit and retain academically qualified and athletically talented student-athletes
+ Establish and maintain an environment conducive to the welfare and academic success of the student-athletes and help ensure academic progress and graduation
+ Assist with meet management planning, logistics and operations
+ Assist with administrative functions
+ Adhere to University, Conference and NCAA policies, procedures, and regulations
+ Establish and maintain effective interactions with the students, colleagues, university community, alumni, media, and the public
The ideal candidates will have expertise and success with the middle and distance events. This position requires an excellent work ethic along with exceptional motivational, teaching/coaching and communication skills. Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse student body. Requires the ability to travel extensively including overnight stays for recruiting and competitions.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
Experience coaching or competing in track & field, including middle and distance events (post high school).
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience coaching both men and women athletes in assigned events/specialties.
Experience in NCAA Division I or professional cross country and track as an athlete or coach.
Demonstrated ability to recruit and coach highly skilled student-athletes and have strong recruiting connections.
